The Jonesborough Board of Mayor and Aldermen appointed Robert Anderson as the new finance director and town recorder at Monday night’s meeting.
Anderson, who formerly worked at the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office and CPA, will bring 13 years’ experience in accounting to the position.
“We appreciate Robert for being here and joining the family at Town Hall,” said Jonesborough Mayor Chuck Vest. “It will make a strong staff here even stronger. We are happy to have him here.”
“I’m excited to have Robert with us,” Town Administrator Glenn Rosenoff said. “He has a great skill set in accounting and auditing, which is something former town recorder Abby Miller was focused on – preparing everything from the time that the auditors come in. There’s a lot of work that gets conducted on a weekly and monthly basis.”
Alderman Kelly Wolfe added that the town treats everyone like family and that’s how Anderson will also be treated.
“The nice thing is, we have Abby Miller for another three and a half months to help with the transition,” Rosenoff explained. “That’s a value that’s hard to really talk about, having someone that’s been there and done that. She’s really helped us tremendous the last few months to pass over the reins to Robert.”
Miller worked as the Town Recorder for nearly 20 years before her retirement in 2021.
Rosenoff added that he and Anderson have had really good conversations and are looking forward to working to advance Jonesborough with Anderson as part of the team.
“We’re tickled to have Robert,” Wolfe said. “Thank you and we are looking for- ward to the great long-term relationship with you and us learning along the way.”
Anderson said one reason he wanted to work in Jones- borough was the fact that it’s a very interesting place and reminds him of his home where he grew up in Abingdon, Virginia.
“It’s very similar and a great group of people,” Anderson said. “It’s a great town and it seems to be going places. It’s very energetic, and I am excited to be a part of it.”
Coming from the Comptroller’s Office, Anderson said that the experience there will help him greatly.
“It was a hard decision to leave, but for a place like Jonesborough, I think it’s worth it,” he said. “I have a lot of background in county government, so it’ll be very helpful moving forward. Jonesborough has a lot of projects going on. They are very exciting and transformative, from the new school to the upgrades of facilities like the theater – just a lot of stuff going on. It’s interesting to see that and to see it come to be.”
Miller was replaced by Pat Ryder in October 2021. However, Ryder submitted his resignation this past July to begin his own retirement. The vacancy for Town Recorder has been up for hire since then.
